Further Training – Beyond the basics

As a BSAC club we can offer you further training and development beyond Ocean Diver

Sports Diver adds:

  • 6 classroom lessons and a theory test on more advanced scuba diving
  • A set of pool sessions adding safety and rescue techniques to your skills
  • Acting as an assistant Dive Manager
  • 5 open water lessons to further develop your scuba diving skills
  • Further open water dives to gain experience and depth progression
  • Sports Divers are qualified to dive to 35m with a similarly qualified dive buddy ( once depth progression has been safely achieved under the supervision of a more experienced diver/instructor )

Dive Leader adds:

  • 12 classroom lessons and a theory test on a wide range of diving related topics
  • Acting as a Dive Manager
  • Gaining Rescue Management skills
  • 7 open water lessons to develop more advanced scuba diving skills
  • 20 Open water dives to gain further experience and depth progressio

Diver Leaders are qualified to plan and lead dives with divers of all grades. This includes experience building dives under the supervision of an instructor.

They are qualified to manage and supervise diving at sites know to the club.

Advanced Diver adds:

  • 4 classroom lessons and a theory test on a range of advanced diving related topics
  • Extending Dive Planning and Management skills
  • 2 open water lessons to develop Rescue and Rescue Management skills
  • 20 Open water dives to gain further experience

Advanced Divers are qualified to plan and lead dives with divers of all grades. This includes experience building dives under the supervision of an instructor.

They are qualified to plan, manage and supervise diving expeditions to new sites.

Instructor Training:

Once you are a qualified Sports Diver you can choose to start training to become a BSAC Instructor. As with the diving qualifications there is a progression of grades and skill levels ( from Assistant Dive Instructor to Advanced or even National Instructor )

Skill Development Courses ( SDCs ):

SDCs complement your diving skills and are available from a wide range of diving related topics from Underwater Photography to Boat Handling to First Aid.

Like the Instructor Training courses these are usually held on a Regional basis where you learn together with students from other dive clubs in our area.
